OKGO
I finished my redo of my legwarmer, but me thinks I'm going to re-redo it. First I'm going to make Anna's though, as hers need to be made ASAP.

Hurrah!
Good news world: I made the club volleyball team at school! Hurrrrraaaaaahhhhhhh.
I'm so excited to have an opportunity to continue to play volleyball. I absolutely adore playing and have really missed playing regularly.
In other news, I knit myself a leg warmer. Yes, a leg warmer, as in one. I tore it out a few days ago though and started over again. The result is a much more regular patter and superior fit (hopefully). If you guys are lucky, I will post a picture of the result.
Ta ta!

ElleOhElle
Had a nice day after work today :]
Came home, took a shower, gave myself an exfoliating facial and then painted my nails sparkly purple.
Ahhhh. Just what I wanted to do on a relaxing Saturday afternoon.

Doublemint
Whoa, two posts in one day. Right on.
Anyways, tonight was very productive. I did all my homework before 8 PM (MY GOD!) and dove headfirst into a new hair regimen... Or at least started my research. Close enough right?
Anyhoo, the new "system" that I'm following is pretty strict: no silicone or sulfates, and only limited proteins in my hair products. This means that all but one of my current products is unsuitable for the future. I get to exhaust my supply of shampoos, leave-ins, creams, and and gels one by one until I have completely changed out my arsenal. Feeling excited, but also a little worried. This sounds expensive lol.
In other news, I've started seriously looking into studying in England for my Spring 2011 semester. During high school, I always imagined myself studying abroad for at least 2 semesters, but now that I have the boo, I find leaving the area--let alone the country--hard to even fathom. However, I've decided that I shouldn't give up an incredible opportunity to travel and learn more about other people and cultures. Of course, I'm not saying that the boo is holding me down; I'm simply saying that I need to get over my own separation issues, get a passport, and do what I had planned to do before falling in love. I'm not going to stress over it though because who knows, maybe my plans will fall through and I won't go abroad.
My biggest concern for studying in England is the expense. It is estimated that a semester will cost me $10,000, and only $2,200 of which my parents will agree to pay. I only have around $3,500 in the bank, so I need to start saving very aggressively if I plan on making this trip a reality given my current work hours. In fact, I don't think that I will make the difference in a years time, but we shall see.
Meanwhile, I feel like a junior in high school again because I've been looking at universities in England and trying to figure out which ones are the most prestigious/desirable. I have found a school called Roehampton University that's only 6 miles away from central London, but it seems to have piss poor rankings. I think I'll overlook this considering the location. A short bus ride from one of the most exciting places in the world seems like a fair exchange. It also offers classes in psychology and the social sciences, which given my major and junior status in 2011, are critical.
Updates on England to come... I'm going to a meeting on Thursday and I'll report back.
As the English would say, cheerio.

Lickity Split
So you know how you see those Yoplait commercials where they say that if you send in your pink lids, they will donate $.10 to breast cancer research? Well I hope the people in their mail rooms wear gloves because every single one of those lids has been licked.
Ew.
Ew.

Suddenly fascinated...
Nothing like homework to make you find absolutely everything fascinating... everything but your assignment that is. I never want to clean, but give me a paper to write and suddenly I just love cleaning my room and picking up the house.
Can you tell I have homework I should be doing? I must really be bored to put up a post for a second night in a row. Madness.

Dude.
OK I'm officially sick of the media being all "-ista" all the time. You know what I'm talking about... stupid words like "frugalista," as if -ista implies some sort of a sophistication.
-Ista is not a suffix! Well actually it technically is, but Zeus' beard, I will be beyond happy when people stop using it in asinine ways. That is all.

Dear old lady at Trader Joe's
When you cut in front of me, you accomplished nothing but earn my derision.
I hate you.
I hate you.

Loverly
Had a lovely weekend with the boo <3
We hit up Santa Cruz with our friend David and ate lots of delicious food, of course.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO TRY SNOW MIRACLE. It is amazing. I can try to explain it, but comparing it to other things just fails miserably because it is so different from anything else. It's a frozen treat, and though the dispensing process looks a lot like shaved ice, the end result could not be further from it. Snow Miracle is located in Oakridge Mall (between Target and Hagan Daaz).

Summer: Sing it Will Smith
I have enjoyed my first two real days of summer. Haven't done much really, but I rather like it like that. I've cleaned a bit, worked out a bit, got rid of old school work a bit. A bit.
Something notable HAS happened though: today I was scarred for life by the meat factory that is 24 Hour Fitness.
Let me tell you about my first experience:
There was an online offer where I traded all sorts of personal information for a free seven day trial at a gym close to my house. Today I made good with my coupon and dragged my butt down to the place, slightly more optimistic and looking forward to a good workout than you might expect. When I arrived, I first checked in a front desk manned by a very young and bored looking man, who ushered me to another very young lady named Stephanie. Whilst Stephanie was entering in my information into a computer (information the already had, mind you... that's how I got the trial in the first place), I had time to glance into the area where people actually worked out. IT WAS HORRIFYING.
There were like 203840912840983259823438 people sweating and snorting and attempting to discreetly compare themselves to those around them.
What freaked me out was that the whole institution reminded me vaguely of cows being prepared for slaughter. More on this later when I have had a chance to really ruminate on it. Or "marinate," as my sister would say. I'm struggling with putting my thoughts into words.

Motivation What?
Quite often, I make plans to do/finish something, and then lose interest. Then, I allow myself to get distracted and not be productive. For instance, right now I could be actually working on my homework, but instead I'm ranting about how I don't do my homework. Yay me!
Last night a girlfriend slept over, but being the grandma that I am, I fell asleep when she went to the bathroom around 12:30. Whoops. But in the morning, we made lovely pancakes with fruit and listened to Jack Johnson whilst dancing in the kitchen.

Breaking Bread with my Ancestors
Made Irish soda bread with my Bubbie today to prepare for her favorite holiday: St. Patrick's day. It was fun cooking and visiting, but as we could only cook four loaves at a time, it was pretty slow going.
Garden update: I have no room in the yard to plant lol. Nor proper sun. So my fantasies of beets and melons as far as the eye can see are nothing but. Sad day. If however I inspired you to grow your own garden this summer, I found an awesome site with all heirloom seeds and directions when to plant. Check it out and grow your own veggies and share the produce with me lol. >>Heirloomseeds.com

Garden Fantasies
I think I'm going to try to mount an effort to plant a vegetable garden this spring. My desired produce: melons, beets, and carrots. Pickled beets are my favorite salad topping and carrots are so good when they are homegrown! Sweet, vibrantly colored, and crunchy, they put supermarket carrots to shame. Melons are one of my favorite fruits, especially watermelon. The crisp flesh is so yummy when refrigerated. Tomatoes would be yummy too, and if I indeed plant some tomato seeds, then I definitely want to plant some basil with it. Talking about food has made me hungryyyy I'm starting to drool.
Uh-oh
I swatted at a spider on the wall... I think I got it, but I can't find the body. Unconfirmed kills make me nervous.

not Youtube
To start off, I just want to say that I love Youtube. It rocks because the site creates a place the users can go and make their own by uploading their own videos, commenting on on others' videos, and customizing their profiles. User-generated content is what the internet is all about.
That being say, I want to give a great big boo to the fact that almost out of the top 15 videos of all time, 10 of those are music videos posted by users like "universalrecordgroup." Youtube should be a place where people around the world can post their dumb videos of babies biting fingers, pandas sneezing, and super fast rubik's cube solves, not a home for music videos posted by conglomerates. I mean really, should Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" be the number one video?

First (and most likely last) post
So here is the typical and awkward "Woo this is my first blog post" post.
My name is Caryn.
I am a student and barista in the Silicon Valley.
That is all.
